5 Things I Love About This Weekend

5. I am packing my bags and road tripping with my mom and sister, Carrie, to Tennessee beginning tomorrow at 6:00am! We will be visiting some family, and I will also get a chance to see some of my college friends in Knoxville! Yay for fun times with family and friends! I am especially happy because I will get to see my adorable cousin, Chandler, again!
4. While I am there, I will be picking up a pair of these boots at a local shoe store! I have them in brown and gray, but really "need" the black ones too, of course! :)

3. I will get to see one of my bestest friends, Angie, who was also my Matron of Honor! My sister and I will be staying with her tomorrow night so that means lots of quality time!

2. We will be going to a fall festival on Saturday! Fall is my favorite season. I love anything to do with it! Apple cider, pumpkin pie, corn mazes, cool weather, bonfires, you name it! So getting the opportunity to go to a festival solely dedicated to fall = Awesome! Hopefully I'll take a lot of great pictures to share!

1. I do not have to be around kids for 3 whole days! This might be the highlight of my weekend! I need a break! I can only go so many days in a row before I want to scream. This seems to be a significant sign that I am definitely in no way ready for children, and that is fine. I have no desire to head down that path any time soon! :) Hooray for a childless weekend!

Sunless Sunday

So the sun has decided to sleep in today as did I. Sunday is the day of rest so that's just what I did. I've made little plans today. However, the ones I do have I am excited about! I plan to head over to my parent's house where my sisters are staying and eat some delicious lasagna for lunch. Then it is my hope to go to JoAnn's for their Coupon Commotion sale and buy some new craft supplies! I've decided that I am in need of a few essentials... not to mention some adorable fabric that I've had my eye on for awhile! Here's to hoping I get some good deals!

Today is Travis and I's 3 month anniversary of marriage. We have officially been married for 1/4 of a year! Although the past three months have not been without their difficulties, I am still happy that we are married and I get to spend the rest of my life with him!

On a side note, I've been internet browsing and found a few items I love. ENJOY :)

Confessions of a Newlywed: A Venting Session

If you have enough time and energy to read this post, I would love some feedback! :)

As girls, most of us cannot wait to get older, find that perfect guy who won't hurt us or leave us, and who will, well, love us forever. Guys. We date them, get hurt by them, make stupid mistakes because of them, get drunk one too many times over them, and then feel lost without them. Even the most independent of women are usually just bitter because of one too many heartbreaks that they feel it isn't worth it letting someone in anymore. I know, because I've been in all of these places. My, now, husband, and I have dated since our senior year of high school (off and on) and all through college. We've been through the dramatic fights, break ups, and heartbreak of teenagers in love. Incredibly, we managed to make it through all of the chaos to a place where we realized we truly do love each other more than just two high school sweethearts trying to rekindle a dwindling romance.

We got engaged last May 1st (2009) and recently got married (June 19, 2010) and are now living the married life, typically described as "marital bliss", the "honeymoon stage", and other romantic terms describing couples so caught up in love that they are overcome with emotion. I guess I always believed that was how it would be once we said "I do" and moved in together. I don't know if it is my fault for having unrealistic expectations or for buying into stupid romantic ideologies that the movie industry promotes. Either way, life as a newly married couple has been anything but ideal. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my husband and am NOT having second thoughts about getting married. I am simply re-evaluating my previous expectations and ideas of life after marriage.

Try not to laugh, but I guess I expected decorating our cute little house, keeping it organized and clean, sharing responsibilities, and both being so in love and happy to be together that the details just fell into place. He has always been good with money so I figured he'd head up the financial aspects and I would take charge of the domestics. By "take charge" I mean more along the lines of "distribute". I never expected to take full responsibility for it all. However, my poor anticipation of the after-marriage-life could not have been farther from accuracy. I feel as though by getting married I assumed not only the job of co-contributer financially, but also Maid, Cook, Dishwasher, and Understudy. I am a Maid in the sense that I am always cleaning. I clean the house one night, go to work (he gets off before I do), come home and have to clean up the mess he's made since I've been gone. I'm a Cook in the sense that I cook dinner practically every night (he knows how to cook). He gets off at 4 and I get off at 6 yet I am the one expected to start dinner and have it ready at a decent time. I am a Dishwasher because we do not have one and if I don't do them they will pile up for days until we either fight about it or do them myself. What I mean by Understudy is that I feel that I do not carry as much power as he does. He is constantly making small remarks about how he makes more money than me and it is SO frustrating. For instance: I turn over my entire check to him to distribute it towards bills ( we do take out equal amounts of "play" money which we are free to use however we want). He recently got a bonus on one of his checks. He had been saving the checks from this particular job to go towards his books for school this quarter, but apparently he had some extra money from the bonus. So rather than putting it in savings, or towards our "date night" fund, he calls to see if it would be okay if he buys Madden 2010 with the money. I suppose it is good that he called, but I felt obligated to say yes, because he makes such a big deal about making more than me. So now, on a night we were supposed to spend together, he has been sitting on the couch nonstop playing football. He paused it to watch a movie with me, but then went straight back to his game after it ended. How romantic. So far, marriage is anything BUT what I anticipated. Not to mention all of the fun bills you get to pay.

I know that the first year has got to be tough adjusting to living with someone. I've only ever lived with girls (I have 2 sisters and lived with girls in college). So I suppose that living with a boy should be a challenge to get used to at first. I guess I assumed that since Travis and I have been dating for years and know each other so well that this would not be so big of an adjustment. I admit my ignorance. I would love to have one romantic date night where we do more than eat out and come home. A date night where some planning was involved. I would love if he took the time to do some things around the house without me asking 10392352 times. It's probably even more annoying to me because I work with kids and have to clean up after them all day and repeat myself a million times to get them to do things, then I come home and have to do the same thing for a grown man.

I think it is even more frustrating because all of my friends are either single or have gone back to college. So I am stuck here with no one to talk to about these things. I rarely get to go out with anyone unless my sisters are in town. So if I need some time away from home, I have to go it alone. All of this to say that is Apparently why I am venting to a blog. Sorry if this post is negative and lengthy. I just needed to get a few things off of my chest.

If you read this small chapter and have any comments or advice, please feel free to share! I could use some pointers! :) Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend so far!

I'm A Lonely Bird

I love being married. It's like a constant sleep over with your best friend. Travis and I have a blast together and life is great. However, there are certain things that being married has changed- like my friends situation, for instance. I feel like lately I have hardly any friends. I guess it is marriage and the fact that I am no longer in college in Tennessee. All of the friends that I made at school are hundreds of miles away either still at school or living back in their home towns all across the country. I do have a few friends from home but they seem to be either leaving for school or in "single mode", which I have nothing in common with. One of my best friends from high school who I got along great with just moved to Nashville with her sister. It has hit me harder than I expected. I do have one semi-close friend here still, but she is always going out to clubs and drinking. Now, I have nothing against either of those things, but I feel as though we can't really relate anymore because we have hardly any common interests. I have no desire to get trashed and go out to clubs and flirt with random guys. I also do not want to end up as the D.D. and chauffeur drunk girls around all of the time. What to do? What to do?

Travis has been going to school locally for the past couple of years so all of his friends are here. I don't want to make him feel obligated to hang out with me all of the time just because my friends aren't dependable. I guess it's good that I don't mind going out by myself. In fact, tonight I did just that. After dinner Travis informed me that he was going over to his friend Clay's to play pool, which he does a couple of times a week. I decided I was not going to sit alone at home with no cable and no internet and be sad. I would take myself out. I have actually had a pretty fun night. I stopped at Gabriel brothers and found a fabulous wooden frame for $3.00, a red-ish orange multi strand necklace for $2.00, and a lace blazer-style shirt for $8.00... pretty productive... although I need to calm the shopping down. On a side note I am expecting my Forever 21 package tomorrow! So very excited :)

Tomorrow my mom is coming over and we are embarking on our first sewing adventure together. She is going to get my new machine up and running and teach me a few tricks of the trade. I can't wait! My first item might have to be my lace open front vest that I can't seem to find one to buy anywhere. I might as well make myself one then!

Since I am on the topic of wants I have been in the process of making my birthday/ Christmas wish list early! Call me crazy, but with my family you have to tell them early or you'll get a bunch of random things that you really don't need. My current list looks as follows:

The Sims 3 for PS3. I feel kind of like a loser for wanting this at my age, but I used to play it all of the time when I was younger. Since we recently bought a PS3 Travis plays it all of the time, but I never have anything to play on it, so I thought this might be a fun option.

Purple Keds, of course! :)
The "old" Parent Trap! Such a classic! I saw it at Target recently for only $10 in double feature package with the Parent Trap II.. which I've never heard of the sequel... probably not very good, as most sequels aren't.
I found this lace top, which could be worn as a vest like I've been wanting at Walmart.com for only $7.00 on clearance!
I've been hearing a lot about this book and it looks interesting!

This is one of my favorite movies.. Doris Day & James Garner... such a cute movie!

I need a new flat iron desperately! If I can't get a CHI, I guess I'll settle for this one. My sister swears by hers.
I've been wanting the Father of the Bride I and II forever! Walmart.com has it for $9.88 for BOTH! Can't beat that!
I'm pretty sure that is all I've been wanting! Hopefully I get some of these things for my birthday or Christmas! Even though my birthday isn't until November 4th :) Kind of a long ways away still!

Okay, I've been at Tim Horton's all of this time borrowing some free wifi and I think it's about time to head home and see if my husband's "pool tournament" has ended. My cappuccino is cold, I'm out of danish, it is ungodly cold in here... to the point where my fingers can hardly type, and I am a bit annoyed hearing some pubescent mini Barbie whine about a text war she is having with her current boy obsession... boy am I so happy to be out of high school, or middle school, whichever she might currently be in- or at least acting as such. Okay, obviously I'm a little on edge tonight as well! I'm off to home where my bedroom air conditioner is currently broken and I will be wishing to be this cold in about 20 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow is a beautiful day as this one has been!

Lazy Day Sunday

Little was accomplished in my household today. After getting in a little after 2am then heading to bed a bit after 3, I didn't roll out of bed until 11:00ish when Travis woke me up out of boredom.

In recent news, we cancelled our cable this week and have yet to sign up with another company so we are cable-less as of now. I never realized how much I watched it until going without. I guess it is a good thing that it is gone temporarily. It might help foster a little creativity in my life and force me to get more artistic in my boredom.

As far as today goes Travis and I started our series of Friends for the 3rd time. We are a bit obsessed with the show. It never seems to get old. So we popped in the first disc after watching the gag reel for the first time and started season one all over again. Of course it was almost lunch time at this point, and we both admitted to craving a Works pizza from Donato's. We then noticed that whenever we get Donato's we typically watch Friends. It seems to be a bit like Pavlov's theory of classical conditioning! Now whenever we watch Friends we crave Donato's. Hmm this could get expensive and fattening!

We were able to knock out most of our wedding thank you cards today. They are a little later than I would prefer, but still within the range of etiquette so that makes me feel better. I went over to my parent's house tonight for a visit while Travis was at band practice. Something you should know about my parents is that they are avid thrifters, meaning they go to thrift stores about once a week or more. My family is bargain savvy. My dad is a cheapo, in the nicest way possible! He loves to save money. He is one of those people that sees a dollar's worth! My mom on the other hand loves to spend money, but not just for the heck of it. She is a crafter and loves to remake things that she finds and resell them in her store. She is great with seeing the potential in things. She usually picks up little knick-knacks that she thinks I would like. her latest trip included finding me a cereal storage container and a new pair of Delia's cropped skinnies that she got for $1.50. I love it when she surprises me with things I like! :) The last time I went with her I found two new sweaters and a new polka dotted slub blouse that I will have to post pictures of once they come out of the wash! I am quite fond of all 3 pieces I found that day! I really should make a habit out of visiting the thrift store more often- especially for my furniture needs! I would love to find a piece for my kitchen that I could remake and personalize.

Travis has decided after reworking our budget that I can start budgeting $100 a month for whatever I want! I can shop with it, save it, go out to eat with friends, anything! Not that I couldn't do these things before, but I would always have to okay with him first. He is not a financial dictator or anything of that sort. He is just very responsible when it comes to money and crunching numbers. Therefore, he assumes the task of financial advisor/ budgeter in our household. I am not particularly good with the whole budgeting thing. I can't think it those terms for some reason. I need someone to tell me how much I can spend and how much I should save and yada yada yada. I guess we make a good team :)

Speaking of spending money, here are a few things I would like to spend some money on and some things I couldn't pass up!

The first few are from Forever 21:

While innocently browsing ;) the Forever 21 website I found this royal blue button skirt for only $8.00 on a yellow tag deal! Of course I couldn't pass such a great deal up! With some black or even yellow tights, this would look perfect with my new fall jacket [pictures soon to come!]
I also found this Sequin Applique Headwrap for only $4.80 and thought it was adorable! I've been meaning to get one of these for awhile now. My sister has one that I love. Since she lives in Pennsylvania I can't just run over and borrow hers' so I suppose it was just time for me to invest in my own!

I've been trying to add more patterns to my wardrobe and decided this Floral Field Tunic would be a nice top to layer things with, it was the most expensive thing I bought at $17.80, but still a steal!
I love this Wild Garden Tunic from Forever 21 only $15.80! I thought it would be adorable with some tights and boots under my new jacket this fall so I gave in to temptation and ordered it as well!

Love the floral pattern and the detailed back!

This is a classy top from Forever 21... the Satin Big Bow Top $22.80, I did not, however, purchase this one! I figure I have already done enough damage for one night!

These items to follow I found at one of my favorite clothing wishlist websites, Ruche. Surprisingly, I have yet to order anything from them. I guess I am hesitant because I can get so much more for my money at Forever 21, which has many comparable items. For instance, I got all 4 items that I bought tonight for the price of one Ruche piece of clothing... I guess I prefer bargains! Not to mention, since I spent over $40 I received free standard shipping using the code STANDOUT [expires 8/13]. Nonetheless, I love to browse and wish at RUCHE, so here are my recent finds:

Ruche's current theme is taking ruffled fabrics and making them look like cupcakes. I thought this idea was super cute! Above is a preview of it.

This tank is called Lace Is For Lovers $35
This "It Began With A Bow" belt is only $11

I thought it was interesting that this fabric was on the Ruche site because I have a relaxed trapeze tank from Forever 21 with the exact same fabric that I got for only $15.80! I loved the print and couldn't resist!

This adorable blouse is called Vanilla Custard Sweetness Crochet Tunic $37, however, it is sold out at the moment

This is their Coffee Shop Conversation Dress, which is also currently sold out, but typically goes for $50.

I love these dainty Polka Dot Chiffon Hair Clips [$10] They are so delicate and cute

Now for some finds that have nothing to do with clothing :)

This is a creative idea for using doilies as envelopes!

I love this picture! The flowers and especially the vase are so beautiful. I would love to find a vase like this one for my house.

Fall Wishlist Items:
  • Mustard Yellow tights
  • Red/Orange tights
  • A new pair of black tights
  • A couple of new scarves
  • Lace open front vest (Cream)
  • Ruffle vest (like the one from Ruche in a previous post)
  • A new brown over-the-shoulder satchel

Say No To Kids

Only a little over a month has passed wince the wedding and already the topic of children has come up. However, not in the way one might think. We both used to love kids and eagerly anticipated the day when we would have our own. Now that we have been married, we both are not sure if we even want children, period. It might just be the phase that we are in since we are enjoying life with just the two of us. We want to travel and be able to go to concerts and nice dinners without finding a sitter or paying for overly priced kids meals.

I feel like I'm in the movie Father of the Bride II when George and Nina have just found out they are expecting and are driving back from the doctors. While Nina is gazing out the window admiring mothers and children lovingly strolling by, George is seeing mini terrors being chased by their parents. Whenever I go out and am around children, I feel like George. I see kids screaming or whining or simply even hear them talking to their parents and I cringe. I want none of that. Having kids is constant stress, a depletion of money, and a decrease in free time. Maybe I should just enjoy other people's children? There is a small part of me that wants my own children someday. I want to see if they will have Travis' eyes or my hair of if they will be a combination of both of us.

I think one recent deterrent is the fact that I work at a disorganized daycare facility that takes advantage of its teachers. It is an overwhelming job with little enjoyable moments. It is full of constant discipline and correction. My job is to sit around and wait until the kids break a rule or annoy me then I instruct them to behave. Talk about frustrating Maybe it is all of the negatives I have been experiencing that have caused me to feel the way I do. I believe that one day I will get past this and eventually want kids as I have in the past. I used to want 1 boy and 2 girls. I have never been good at coming up with boy names, but girl-wise I am set on the names Avarie (Ava) and Laila. So maybe someday when the newlywed feeling has lessened and we are settled in and have our finances under control, we will consider the possibility of expanding our family. However, as of now, I believe I have awhile before my biological clock starts ticking!

Here are some photos of our nieces and nephews! As you can see we have more than enough children in the family to keep us busy for a few years!

New Happenings

Lately I've had a lot on my plate. Wedding overload, house "renovations", school requirements, job (or lack thereof) stress, relationship quirks, and financial frustrations.

Wedding planning seems to be flowing pretty well aside from temporary stressors. It is crazy to think that it is 3 months from the 19th of March! It will go so quickly. Wow. However, the bridesmaid dresses are coming along (2 are almost finished). We figured out (for the most part) the decorations we will need for the ceremony. I'm starting to piece together my
accessories. The excitement is starting to build!

Saturday, Travis and I had to attend an 8 hour premarital/ marital seminar called RINGS as a part of a requirement made by our officiant. Although very skeptical we left with gratitude. It was not bad at all. They provided breakfast and lunch as well as snacks throughout. I enjoyed the lax atmosphere and the exercises we were able to do with our partners. Travis even admitted he was really glad we went, and he learned a lot of awesome things to apply to our relationship. I particularly learned from the discussion on confrontation. They went over healthy ways to disagree and confront one another without being disrespectful or belittling. I really think the techniques have helped Travis and I get on the same page already. All in all I'm really thankful that I attended and would totally recommend it to any couple (committed daters to married or remarried adults)

My mom and I went over to Travis' house (my future residence) to measure and comprise a game plan for our renovations. As of now it is a smelly, tacky bachelor pad in much need of some TLC! We will be renting it from his grandparents and although it is not too bad for a first place, there are a few things I could really do without. For instance, the old, musky, damp basement with the scary laundry room, the brown paneled wall in the bedroom and along the hall, and especially the teal-colored carpet in the guest room that makes decorating impossible. However, I guess these minor details should be overlooked considering what a steal we'll be renting it for. It's a great size and with a little paint and decorating, it should look pretty nice. It will definitely be interesting though, to say the least. Here is my color palette for the house so far.
I'm leaning towards "Crumb Cookie" for the kitchen and for 2 of the 3 paintable walls in the bedroom and "Rendezvous" for the accent wall of the bedroom (the 4th wall is brown panelling, which his grandparents won't allow us to paint over). I'm still a bit up in the air for the bathroom. I'm thinking possibly the "Footpath", "Sea Sprite", "Parakeet Pete", or "Limelight" for the bathroom. However, no final decisions have been made until I can take the sample in the room and test it with the lighting. This has just been my most recent project. Since Travis is on spring break next week, I'm thinking we will begin our painting adventure!
Saturday night we went and saw a band called "MONA" (pictured above) at the Canal Street Tavern in downtown Dayton. It was a great show. The lead singer, Nick, broke his hand punching their former lead guitar player and played the entire 3 hour show with a broken hand. They put on an amazing show. His voice is really unique and each member brings a great energy. And talk about the best cover of "Zombie" (by the Cranberries) I have ever heard. I would love to have a copy of their rendition... very impressive. I feel like they are on the up and up. Speaking of MONA, Travis' band, Bernoulli, might be opening for them in a couple of weeks. It would be a great opportunity for them! They just recently won the Wright State University's Battle of the Bands contest and get to open for Boys Like Girls at the Nutter Center on May 8th, which I am so excited for! More so to see them than to watch Boys Like Girls.

I found some cute things on ETSY tonight. I purchased vintage-looking lucite rose beads to add to necklaces along with monograms for part of my bridesmaid gifts from Beadsupplies. They match my wedding color (pink) and have that vintage style to them that I love so much. My mom and I also found an adorable knitted beanie-style hat for my one year old cousin from the Cupcakecardcompany. It includes 5 interchangeable flowers (of your color choice) for only $15. Great deal and super cute! Here are some photos:
I guess that is all of the updates I have for now... more later :) God Bless!

Empty Souls, Hollow Homes

Those Words You Don't Mean

Sitting alone and it's silent,
Your words are screaming at me,
Tryin' to figure out the meaning,
It's like a puzzle missing a piece,

I feel I'm racing so quickly,
But my feet are planted on the floor,
You'd think such a torn up heart,
Couldn't take anymore,

I lay beside pillows and blankets,
Pretending I'm not alone in the dark,
Wishing those words in my head,
Would find another beat up heart.

So I'll lay here in delusion,
Hoping to feel your hand on mine,
Instead of wide awake confusion,
Wondering if it will last this time
___________________________________________

Uneventful day. Just needing to find some purpose. I just can't make sense of it all. Maybe that is my problem, I try to make sense of everything, even things not meant to be taken as logic. How can one so used to filtering the world through logic, acquire a different filter? Relinquish control? Me? I wouldn't know how. I guess I am a control freak after all. I feel as though I receive zero direction in life. Occasionally I'll receive a convicting thought or two after the fact, but before hand... nothing. Awesome. I really love how this whole thing is turning out. Religion, I mean. Raised in a Christian home I have been given all of the "answers", so to speak. However, those cliche responses are not enough to satisfy me. I want to find more for myself. Maybe that is the control freak within me speaking, but either way, I need to find what's best for me. However, I can't seem to do so. I seem to end up on dead end roads with wooded areas all around and no glimpse of the light. Maybe sitting around and waiting for the trees to fall down isn't the best option, but I'm not sure which route to take. Is it not better than getting more lost or taking the wrong road? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe I'm wasting time waiting for nothing. Would I know a sign if I ran into it? Probably not. I'm too busy looking for a sign to even recognize when a real one appears. What to do with me? A hopeless cynic with some major control/anxiety issues. Could I be a lost cause? Or simply trying to find a cause that seems to be lost? Either way, God, a little direction would be greatly appreciated. Please & thank you.

Gravity

I feel as though I am in a slump lately. I'm not sure why. Everything seems to be going right for once. I'm home, finished with school in Tennessee, with family, with my fiance, enjoying free time, but something is off. Hmm. Christmas was excellent. Lots of time with family, both Travis' and mine. It was much-needed. I finally got a new camera that I am extremely happy with. My sisters surprised me with it on Christmas Day. Wonderful surprise! It's a Canon 1200 SD and I highly recommend it, especially for detailed close-ups with a digital... great quality and automatic scene detection! My mom just bought one today as well. Speaking of my mom, I am all shopped out. Aside from the annual Christmas shopping madness, she has drug me (willingly & unwillingly) to so many stores lately that I am over shopping (temporarily of course). This is another indicator of my slump... me? tired of shopping?... strange. I only wish I could figure out what has got me so down, it's a bit annoying really. Maybe I just need to adopt a little more creativity in my life. I haven't had any time for hobbies due to the hectic holiday festivities. It is quite possible that I just need some creative therapy. Hmm... but what to make?

In other news, I exchanged my wedding dress for an ivory version of the same dress. I think it was the right decision. I won't be able to see it until it arrives in March, so I am very anxious. I just think it will look much better with my skin tone. I also might have possibly found the song that I will walk down the aisle to. It's a piano version of Look After You by the Piano Tribute Players... it seems to be the perfect song in my opinion. Lots more wedding details to look forward to. Next on the list: Save the Dates. I need to start putting them together & getting them sent out before mid January. It's hard to believe I am getting married in less than 6 months. Maybe I am just going through pre-marital anxiety or something that has to do with leaving home and anticipating immense changes that are about to occur in my life. 22 years of doing things one way then having to change definitely warrants some anxiety, right? This was my last Christmas at home, and it wasn't even a typical traditional Christmas since Travis & I attended each other's Christmas activities.

I feel so old lately. Like I'm experiencing an early form of a quarter life crisis. I'm only 22, but in just a few months I'll be married- a wife! That's a whole new phase of life. I am definitely looking forward to it, but feel as though I have so much to learn. I don't want to turn into an old woman just because I gain a new identity as a wife. I want to still have fun like a 22 year-old should. Travis & I do most things together anyway, maybe it won't be THAT much different. A little nervous, but that's normal. Mostly excited more than anything. I have figured out that I am so not ready for the idea of kids. I used to think that I would want them shortly after being married. Now, I am sure that will not be the case. I actually get a little freaked out thinking about it. Let's hope that they will remain several years down the line.
Here is a picture of my new favorite necklace taken by my new camera!

Okay, enough ranting, time for bed. Goodnight. :)
